A love of music and life - Marian Knight farewelled

MORE than 100 mourners remembered Ballarat great-grandmother Marian Grace Knight at a celebration of her life yesterday.

The 90-year-old was farewelled at the Doveton Park Funeral Centre, with family and friends remembering her as a committed member of the community who appreciated the simple things in life.

Born in Ballarat in 1922, Mrs Knight met her future husband Keith while both were students at Ballarat High School.

The couple’s two sons Gary and Tony paid tribute to their parents yesterday, remembering Mrs Knight as someone who cared for strangers and saw beauty everywhere.

“It was this ability to feel that also meant she lead a vibrant and happy life enjoying everything life gave her,” Gary said.

“Mum would go to bed early so she could wake up and hear the birds, sitting in the quiet of the morning having three or four cups of tea.”

Survived by her brother Jack and her sister Ruth as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mrs Knight’s love of music formed a central theme of the service.

Her long performing career included local musicals, pantomimes and the iconic Royal South Street Festival.
