SMITH, Jones, Wilson, Brown and Williams: these five surnames have held the top five places in Ballarat has most popular surnames over the past few years.
For 2012, the White Pages has shown that although the top five have remained strong, the top 20 has a few jumps and inconsistencies.
Collins has made an appearance in the top 20 at number 19 for the first time, Stewart has dropped from the list, and Anderson has dropped six places from 11th most popular to number 17.
Ballarat resident Kingsley Collins said he hadn’t noticed that there was an increase in his own last name.
“My son moved back to Ballarat last year, so there’s one extra Collins – but no one’s had 15 children or anything in my family,” Mr Collins said.
Places six to eight have shuffled slightly with the names Ryan, Taylor and White all knocking on the top five.
