Weather records show climate change is real

Gwynne Dyer's column of July 11 is headed "There is no solid proof of climate change...".

I would suggest that there is clear evidence in the weather records -not in their number but in their nature.Kevin Trenberth, a US government researcher interviewed on PBS recently, used the pattern of record breaking to reveal what seems to me very like proof.

It may well be that the increase in the number of records being broken at least partly reflects an increase in the precision and number of the records being kept.

For a long time the broken records in the US split fairly evenly between highs and lows. A decade ago the highs began to be more than double the lows. This year the highs have numbered more than 10 times the lows. What do you need for proof, Gwynne?
