A LARGE crowd of invited guests toasted Ballarat’s iconic Her Majesty’s Theatre last night at the launch of its 2013 season.
With performances by soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, entertainers Debra Byrne and Max Gillies and cult favourite Rockwiz, the season promises something for every Ballarat arts lover. The Rockwiz night will be a fundraiser for The Courier Charity Fund.
Her Majesty’s Theatre manager Graeme Russell said the season would present must-see theatre, family productions and the return of the Ballarat Cabaret Festival.
“We are really excited by the program. We have pulled it back a little bit from last year and focused on getting a real cross-section of quality,” he said.
“Putting together a program for a theatre like Her Majesty’s is really a 12-month process but after a lot of work we feel great about 2013.”
The newly published Season 2013 guide includes new productions of The Merry Widow, Art by French playwright, actress and novelist Yasmina Reza and wartime play The Girls in Grey.
Also included are the acclaimed Boxman and Sundowner starring Helen Morse.
