CENTRAL Wendouree’s Lynn Maple and City Oval’s Janine Roberts will play off for The Courier Shield as the Ballarat District Bowls Division women’s singles Champion of Champions at Ballarat Bowling Club tomorrow.
Maple progressed to the final yesterday when she defeated Sebastopol’s Jenny Harman 25-22, scoring a single shot on the final end to clinch the match.
Meanwhile, Roberts overcame Beth Huntley of Creswick, coincidently 25-22, on the same green.
Both matches were close throughout and played to a very high standard.
The Courier Shield final will start at 10am.
Webbcona trio Jenny Shepherd, Raelene Worsley and Ann Gull are the Ballarat District Bowls Division women’s triples champions after defeating Mt Xavier’s Joy Adams, Carmel Mitchell and Marilyn Blake 22-14 at Buninyong last week.
Scores were locked at 14 apiece on the 14th end. However, the Webbcona team scored on the next three ends to steal the game.
The Webbcona team, skippered by Shepherd, had a bye in the semi-final and was fresh and ready to play in the final. Shepherd’s team will represent the division at Central Highlands region level in a two-bowl triple match, at City Oval on Sunday, February 24.
The pairs regional final, meanwhile, is at Dunnolly on Sunday.
Round 16 of midweek pennant is up next, with only two more home and away games left.
All bowlers will have to be qualified now, to be eligible to play in the finals, which means having played at least four games of pennant this season.
Further, if a bowler has played in more than four games in a higher division side they cannot be picked in a lower side unless they have played four or more in the side concerned, according to competition rule 13C.
All sides are advised to name an emergency for final games, in case of last-minute health or injury concerns.

In division two, BMS to just get over the line in a challenging game against Sebastopol.
Daylesford’s home green advantage will help it triumph over Midlands in division three.
In division four, Smeaton to defeat Mt Xavier at home in a well fought match.
