And now his twin brothers are joining him to cause more headaches for the Burras’ rival coaches.
Brad and Mitch McKay have signed from Ballarat league club Bacchus Marsh, which they played for in the under-18.5 grand final last year.
The 18-year-olds, who finished second and fourth respectively in the league best and fairest count, attended their first Hepburn training session for 2013 last night.
Andy, the reigning Geoff Taylor Medal winner, said it had always been a plan for the three to play together at the one club and felt this year was the right time.
“I can’t wait. They’ll fit in good, they’re both really good players,” he told The Courier yesterday.
Andy, 26, said he had considered a return to the Cobras, where he once played, but was keen on remaining at the Burras.
“I had phone calls and that but I’ve made Hepburn my home now so I think I’ll play pretty much all my footy there,” he said. “I’ve already played there for seven years.”
Andy said his brothers, who opted against playing senior football with Bacchus Marsh last season, were flashy and clever users of the ball.
Hepburn president Jason Olver said the McKay twins had been regular faces at the club over the years, watching their older brother’s career unfold at Hepburn.
“It has always been a desire for them to play together,” Olver said.
“There is absolutely no pressure on the boys to be Andy.
“They are good junior footballers who we hope will be able to play senior football for us.”
Hepburn, which exited the premiership race in last season’s preliminary final, returned to training this week under new coach Clive Raak.
The Burras now prepare to kick off their 2013 campaign with a home clash against Waubra on April 13.
