BALLARAT Grammar student Jenni Adamson knew attending the National Youth Science Forum would be an eye-opening experience, but never dreamed she’d end up deactivating a bomb.
It was one of a range of hands-on, team building exercises to feature at the forum, which was held in Canberra and Perth during the summer break.
Ms Adamson was one of four Grammar students selected to take part in the prestigious program.
“It was fantastic,” she said.
“We were given puzzles and clues and we had to deactivate a bomb, which had fire works attached.
“If we cut the wrong wire the fireworks went off.”
Ms Adamson and fellow Grammar students Laura Simpson, Declan Taylor and Alex Borowiak went through an extensive application process to be selected for the forum.
During the 12-day program the students met and had question-and-answer sessions with prominent scientists, received lectures and did experiments in university facilities.
Ms Simpson said it had motivated her to pursue further studies in science.
