Guilty plea over fatal Sebastopol crash

A MAN charged over the driving death of 19-year-old Kiefer Wilson has appeared in court, more than two years after the fatal crash.

Anthony Solomano appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court this morning, where he pleaded guilty to four charges stemming from a crash in Hertford Street, Sebastopol on February 4, 2011.

Solomano pleaded guilty to culpable driving of a motor vehicle causing death, failing to stop after an accident to render assistance and two counts of negligent driving causing serious injury.

According to documents tended to the court, Solomano reached speeds of up to 117km/h before the crash.

It was also estimated that his blood alcohol concentration at the time was between 0.120 per cent and 0.147 per cent.

According to the summary, Solomano fled the scene of the accident to his brother-in-law's house, before handing himself in to police hours after the crash.

Mr Wilson was the only person in the car to die, with two other passengers receiving serious injuries.

Magistrate Kay Robertson committed Solomano to the County Court for a sentencing hearing.

He is next scheduled to appear on May 6.
