A MAN who sparked a four hour police manhunt in Wendouree yesterday was wanted for questioning over a jewellery store robbery in Ballarat on Monday.
The man, one of two men in their 20s arrested over the early morning smash and grab, escaped police after being taken into custody at a Primrose Street address about midday.
He was recaptured in John Street, Wendouree just before 4.15pm.
Thousands of dollars worth of jewellery was taken from Allan Brothers Jewellers in Sturt Street just after 3.30am on Monday.
About $10,000 damage was also caused when a glass door and display cabinets were smashed during the break-in.
The Courier has since learned detectives were able to recover some of the stolen jewellery.
The two men have been interviewed by police and are due to front court today.
