Minister failing in his duty to the environment

Michelle Goldsmith (Letters, February 13 ) is right to castigate Tony Burke for failing to behave as "Minister for the Environment" and properly protect the Tarkine, which holds one of the few last remnants of Gondwanan rainforest and which shelters the last disease-free Tasmanian Devil population.

Mr Burke would be ideal for a new portfolio: Promotion of Species Extinction and Mining. Or, like so many before him: Minister Against the Environment.

I call upon our local member, Catherine King, to tell us where she stands on this issue, what her input to this debate has been in the party room, and how she intends to remedy the situation.
