SIZE doesn’t faze Miners Rest kickboxer Steve Moxon.
But the 25-year-old admits his world title fight this Friday will be against his most imposing opponent yet.
Moxon will fight to unify the middleweight world kickboxing title on Friday night at The Pavilion in Flemington against multiple world title holder Yohan Lidon from France.
Lidon is the World Boxing Council middleweight kickboxing champion and A1 Kickboxing World champion. The 28-year-old has more than 100 professional fights under his belt, for 85 wins with 52 won by knockout.
“He’s had more knockouts than I’ve had fights,” Moxon joked yesterday.
“But he has two arms and two legs, just like me, so it doesn’t worry me.
“I am fighting in a higher weight division. That, combined with the fact he has had over 100 fights, probably makes me the underdog in some people’s eyes.
“But I’m not going to make excuses. With the plan my trainer Dave Ashmore and I have put together, I feel confident I can knock this guy out.”
Lidon is 180cm tall compared with Moxon’s 169cm, and is five kilograms heavier.
However Moxon has a record that is also impressive. He is the current World Kickboxing Federation world champion and the number-one rated kickboxer in Australia with 36 fights, with 31 wins, 21 by knockout.
Friday night’s fight will be fought over five three-minute rounds.
Moxon will then head to London for a Superfight as part of the Glory World Series, where he will take on Britain’s number one middleweight Jordan Watson.
