Ballarat parking on credit soon: council

CREDIT card readers will be installed in new Ballarat parking meters, but users will pay a surcharge for the convenience.

Ballarat City Council last night voted to support the installation of credit card readers in selected new parking ticket machines to provide for “a range of payment options to customers”.

The council’s growth and development director Eric Braslis said the council was looking to replace aging coin machines with multi-function, multi-bay systems.

He said the use of a credit card would require a fee of about 25 cents per transaction. He said coins would continue to be operational in all machines, with no additional costs for coin users.
