LUCAS has clinched the Ballarat Cricket Association district division one minor premiership.
The Lucas boys, which had the bye in the last round of the home and away season, leapfrogged Creswick Imperials into top spot, setting up a semi-final clash with Ballan this weekend.
That match will be played on Saturday and Sunday, as will the battle between the Imperials and Buninyong in the other knockout fixture.
Creswick heads into finals following a heavy loss to Ballan last Saturday, with captain Kane Leathem and his men bowled out for 117 in pursuit of the hosts’ 222.
Cameron Dunne (4-32) did the bulk of the damage with the ball.
As expected, Burrumbeet was unable to get near Buninyong’s massive first innings total of 5-398, but put up a respectable effort to reach 221 on Saturday.
Wayne Martin opened the batting and was the mainstay with 89, and while David Evans (39) and Aaron Wilson (26) offered some support, the Bunnies’ performance with the bat proved the difference.
Meanwhile, VRI Delacombe finished off the campaign in stunning fashion, completing an outright win over Dunnstown.
With first innings points already secure after day one, VRI skittled the Towners a second time under 100, this time for a miserly 66 to complete the triumph.
James Nichols (5-24) spearheaded the victors, which finish off the season in fifth spot after wins over reigning premiers Buninyong and the Towners.
