Begonia Festival: Pupils get ready for the big parade

PUPILS from Lumen Christi Primary School have been channeling their inner artists for the past month to make an impressive Jack and the Beanstalk-themed float for the annual The Courier Begonia Parade.

More than 60 pupils from grades 5 and 6 have worked on the float with the help of local artists to provide inspiration and tips for the project.

Grade 5 and 6 classroom teacher Belinda Chiswell said the artists in schools program had engaged the children in something creative and fun.

“The kids have absolutely loved working on the float and have learnt a lot too,” Ms Chiswell said.

“I think it’s their favourite part of the week.”

This year’s parade is expected to be bigger than ever, with 52 floats expected to entertain thousands of spectators.
