A RECOVERING drug addict who was caught driving unlicensed for the seventh time has been told a jail sentence would only hinder his rehabilitation.
Peter Brooks, 48, of Sebastopol, appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday, pleading guilty to two charges of driving while disqualified.
The court heard in separate incidents last year, Brooks was caught by police driving a car with false plates and without a
valid drivers licence.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Clint Prebble said in both instances Brooks had made full admissions to his offending.
Defence lawyer Mike Wardell said his client was making genuine effort to rehabilitate himself from drugs and was making positive progress.
Magistrate Peter Couzens convicted Brooks and gave him a three-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months.
