Assault accused to face County Court

A SEBASTOPOL man will face the County Court accused of assaulting his former girlfriend of seven years.

Paul McDonald, 30, appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with intentionally causing injury, contravening a family violence intervention order and assault by kicking.

A police summary of events was read out in court by police prosecutor Senior Constable Steve Kent, before Magistrate Peter Couzens halted proceedings, declaring the events too serious for the Magistrates Court.

McDonald will be tried in the County Court.

Appearing in the dock, McDonald withdrew his guilty plea, before yelling obscenities and storming out of the court.

He is due to reappear in court on May 23.
