Police raid two Ballarat bikie clubs

POLICE have raided two motor cycle clubs in Ballarat this morning.

In two simultaneous raids at 8.45am, search warrants were executed at both the Vikings Motorcycle Club and Bandidos Motorcycle Club.

As part of Operation Resound, police from the Echo Taskforce, Crime Command, the dog squad and local members are conducting the raid.

Crime Command Detective Inspector Mick Frewen said the raids were executed as part of a statewide crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Speaking at the Lalor Street headquarters of the Vikings, Detective Frewen told The Courier that club members had been "extremely cooperative" when police arrived this morning.

Detective Frewen said there had been nothing illegal uncovered as yet and no arrests had been made.

Ballarat is the first regional city to be targeted by the Echo Taskforce after police declared a war on outlaw gangs last month amid fears of an escalating war between clubs.

"We are responding at a statewide level, we aren't just restricting it to Melbourne," said Detective Frewen.
