Brothers found dead at remote farmhouse

HOMICIDE detectives investigating the mysterious deaths of Natte Yallock brothers John and Doug Streeter have moved their investigation to Bendigo, the Bendigo Advertiser reports.

The discovery of a wallet is believed to be the link that has moved the police investigation to Vatmi Recycling in East Bendigo.

Workers at the site were told a wallet was found which could have been linked to the suspected double homicide.

The workers said police arrived at the recycling plant about one hour ago.

They said workers were sent home and the plant's trucks were sent away.

Police are presently at the scene as investigations continue.

It has been reported that Helen, the wife of Doug Streeter, discovered the bodies in the garden of the Natte Yallock farmhouse after returning to the property just before 6pm last night.

They were both aged in their 60s and police have ruled out murder-suicide.

Neighbours say the brothers were well respected and had farmed their whole life.

They were very active in the community were key members of the Loddon Valley Merino Breeders Association.

Homicide detectives were scouring the rural property overnight and gave scant details during the early stages of the investigation.

Homicide Squad Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Tremain told The Courier last night that detectives had "a very long night ahead" in determining how the men had died.

Arriving just before 10pm, he said he was unable to speculate on the cause of the deaths.

"All I can say now is that I have ballistics, gun residue, myself and three other homicide squad detectives, as well as a number of local police members on scene to initiate investigations," Acting Senior Sergeant Tremain said.

"We now have to go in, take a look at the scene and determine what happened before I can give any briefs as to what happened."

Earlier, police were conducting line searches along the dirt road leading up to the farmhouse.

The house in Streeter Lane, off the Moonambel-Natte Yallock road, is set back more than 500 metres from the road in a sparsely populated area with no neighbouring properties.

A number of clearly distressed men and women arrived at the scene throughout the night to confirm what had happened.

One woman said she knew the two men and was shocked to hear of "such sad circumstances".

An ambulance and about 10 police units were initially on scene.

Forensic police were combing the property for evidence last night.
