CWA celebrates 85 great years

THE Ballarat District Group of the Country Women’s Association celebrated Victorian’s CWA 85th anniversary on Friday.

Members from all 18 branches of the Ballarat District attended the luncheon and fashion parade at the Neil Street Uniting Church to mark the occasion.

Ballarat District acting group president Yvonne Virtue, from the Melton-Owls branch, said the group decided to celebrate the day with a fashion parade over the decades.

Each group was designated a decade from the 1920s to the present decade to come dressed as, with some ladies making dresses from scratch to replicate the time.

“We’re also having a grand finale, where they can wear clothing from other decades that may have been their mothers,’ Ms Virtue said.

The CWA celebrated that it had served the community throughout the war, has provided scholarships, given welfare, helped in emergencies and  fundraised.

“In recent years we’ve provided help to those affected by bushfires and floods, and through the drought, providing pamper packs for ladies and their families,” Ms Virtue said.

“Our goal and missions haven’t changed.”
