Midweek bowls title goes to Central Wendouree

BALLARAT District Bowls Division side Central Wendouree overcame a strong fight back from Kyneton to take out the Central Victoria region midweek pennant championship at Mt Xavier.

Central Wendouree cruised through the semi-final against Talbot 53-37.

Jill Kenyon’s team was never troubled 20-9 in its 15-end game and was backed up by Kay Gedde’s eight-shot win.

Seemingly unstoppable, Central Wendouree jumped Kyneton in the final to establish a 17-shot margin by the halfway mark. Kyneton was not finished with though and with two ends to play led Ballarat by three.

Central Wendouree’s only team to win two games, skipped by Kay Geddes, saved the day.

Two shots on the second last end reduced the margin to one and a well constructed five on the final end gave it the title 46-42.

Central Wendouree now goes to Barham on April 3-4 for the Bowls Victoria state title, meeting Melbourne metropolitan winners and 10 country region winners.
