Addict fined over car park drug find

A DRUG addict who was caught using crystal meth in his car was issued a fine this morning.

David Pengelly, 36, appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court today, where he pleaded guilty to possessing amphetamine and unlicensed driving.

The court heard Pengelly was sitting in the Stockland Wendouree carpark when police pulled up next to him.

In the car police found two syringes, filled with a mixture of crystal meth and water.

Pengelly's partner was also in the car.

He did not have a drivers licence at the time.

The court heard Pengelly had been addicted to drugs since he was 13.

Defence lawyer Mike Wardell said his client had been "gripped by addiction for years", but had started to come clean this year.

Magistrate Peter Couzens convicted Pengelly and fined him $800.
