A YOUNG Ballarat Pride was swamped in a battle with Peninsula Waves in Melbourne last night.
The Waves struck hard from the outset to build a 34-goal win in Victorian Netball League championship division.
UB Ballarat Pride held strong in a tight third quarter, which the Waves won by a goal, but early deficit proved too hard to reel in.
Then the Waves surged in a big final term.
International goaler Mwai Kumwenda dominated at the post again, chalking up 53 goals from 59 attempts as goal shooter.
Newly promoted Pride goaler Jordyn Bibby was sharp with the ball, shooting 29 goals at 94 per cent.
Pride has a narrow turnaround to prepare for its home game fixture against Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels at Wendouree Netball Centre on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, Pride 19/unders lost a tight battle with the Waves by three goals.
Pride led by one goal at the first two breaks and the Waves found an edge in the second half that they carried to the final whistle.
