Ballarat gallops: Hisstar makes it three in a row

CAMPERDOWN trainer Ron Gravett is sure to be looking for every opportunity to return to Ballarat with his star mare Hisstar.

Hisstar today completed a hat-trick of wins - all at Dowling Forest.

The sequence began on February 21, and continued on March 7 and in City of Ballarat Showcase BM72 Handicap for fillies and mare, 1600m, on a rain-affected track this afternoon.

Darren Gauci took the ride.

Hisstar ($5) edged out Proserpina ($6.50), with Moscow Pearl ($2.60 favourite) third.

The five-year-old was previously trained by Greg Eurell and joined Gravett's stable after more than 12 months away from the racetrack with injury.

This gives Hisstar five career wins - four with this campaign with Gravett.

Stephen Baster took riding honours on today's eight-race card with a treble - two of the winners for John Salanitri.

He was aboard the Salinirti duo of Star Realm ($26) in the SITA 2yo Maiden, 1100m, and Royal Island in the

Hygain 0-68 Handicap, 1200m, and Paige's Boy ($4.60 equal favourite) for Leon Corstens in the Redbank Wines Maiden, 1400m.

The three wins are timely with Baster beginning a 10-meeting suspension on Saturday after pleading guilty to careless riding at Bendigo on Saturday.
