Carngham Road crash: two drivers hospitalised

TWO Ballarat drivers have avoided serious injury after their cars collided then spun off the road at Delacombe on Thursday.

Ballarat Police Sergeant Kori Fraser said a Snake Valley woman was travelling east on a 100km/h stretch of Carngham Road, when car car collided with another vehicle travelling west about 1.15pm.

"As a result of the collision, both vehicles have spun off onto the side of the road," he said.

The woman was trapped for about 10 minutes and both cars were extensively damaged.She was transported to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other driver, a Ballarat man, was also transported to Ballarat Health Services.

Sergeant Fraser said an inch either way and the consequences could have been much worse.

"One wheel was ripped completely off one vehicle," he said.

"Police, CFA and Ambulance paramedics were on the scene pretty quickly. Carngham Road was blocked for approximately one hour while emergency services were on the scene."

He said police were still making inquiries into the incident, which occurred on a straight stretch of road, in windy conditions.
