Powell has advised the Stawell Athletic Club that he will not line up in the semi-finals this afternoon owing to hamstring trouble
Powell last night asked for more time to give himself the best chance of starting.
However, he has informed the Stawell Athletic Club this morning that he is experiencing increased tightness in a hamstring.
Powell will still attend Central Park today.
The 30-year-old will have an MRI to ascertain the extent of the injury when he returns to Melbourne.
The former world 100m record holder from Barbados almost scratched from his heat on Saturday after suffering tightness in his warm-up.
He finished third in his heat off scratch, but still ran quick enough to qualify for the semi-finals as one of the fatest 20 losers.
