Rock the Civic is a concert set to take place on the steps of the Civic Hall this weekend with the aim of returning the community venue to the forefront of discussion.
The event will feature artists The Jail Bird Jokers, Vinegar Hill, The Boggy Mountain Boys, Kingdom in Crisis, Death by Snu Snu, and Soultown DJs.
Rock the Civic co-organiser Samuel Brown said he wanted the community to be exposed to the hall’s potential while having some fun at the same time.
“While the decision is being made as to how we can utilise the area, why not make use of it?” Brown said.
“Personally, I want the community to be a bit more passionate about the place and if they get exposed to it now they can form an opinion about how it should be used.”
Brown said he was impressed with the response the event had received on Facebook, with more than 100 people already confirming they would attend.
“Hopefully we will get a few people out on the day and hopefully they will start talking about the Civic Hall again. It’s been on the down-low for a while.”
The Civic Hall has been out of operation since 2002 after being used as a Bingo centre for more than two decades.
Prior to that, the venue was used for community events, concerts, balls and graduations as well as school examinations and exhibitions.
