The man charged with her murder, Jason John Dinsley, appeared tired but relaxed in the dock yesterday when he appeared, facing a murder charge over the 29-year-old’s death.
Ms Siermans, a mother of one, died in the bedroom of her Doveton Street South home last Friday night.
Dinsley was arrested by Homicide Squad detectives, with assistance from Ballarat detectives, on Monday night.
The 30-year-old did not apply for bail yesterday, but was remanded in custody and ordered to re-appear in August for committal mention by magistrate Jack Vandersteen.
Wearing jeans and a red and black t-shirt, Dinsley sat in the dock handcuffed and flanked by two police officers.
Ballarat police members searched people as they entered the court building before Dinsley’s appearance as an added security precaution.
He did not speak during the short filing hearing, but nodded and mouthed “thank you” to the magistrate when his next court date was set.
Dinsley’s solicitor, Jon Irwin, when asked if there were any custody management issues, told the court his client suffered from anxiety.
A number of Ms Sierman’s family members who sat in the body of the court during the brief hearing were visibly distressed.
One woman, clearly upset, had to be restrained by a man when she attempted to approach Dinsley in the dock.
The murder charge followed the discovery of Ms Siermans’ body on Saturday morning.
Relatives arriving to maintain the property’s garden at 10.40am made the grim discovery.
On Monday, police said her four-year-old son was at home when his mother was killed, but did not witness her death, which occurred sometime after 8.30pm on Friday.
Homicide Squad Detective Inspector John Potter said the boy told police he saw a man inside the house wearing dark clothing.
Detective Inspector Potter appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
Dinsley will re-appear in court for a committal mention on August 15.
