THE first event in Racing Victoria's new VOBIS Gold bonus series will be run in Ballarat on November 1.
The two-year-old race will offer a VOBIS Gold bonus of $20,000 - lifting the total purse available to eligible gallopers to $80,000.
The feature event will also carry $30,000 in stakemoney and a special Super VOBIS bonus of $30,000.
Minister for Racing Denis Napthine will formally announce tomorrow that Ballarat Turf Club will be the first to offer a Gold bonus.
VOBIS Gold is a scheme to provide incentive to breed, own and race Victorian bred horses with bonuses totalling $18 million when fully operational, including the existing Super VOBIS scheme.
BTC chief executive officer Lachlan McKenzie said he was thrilled that Dowling Forest would be the venue to kick start the VOBIS Gold bonus scheme.
"With the increase in Ballarat Cup prizemoney to $200,000 and a $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic for two-year-olds, Ballarat is set for an exciting spring," he said.
