Redirect cemetery trust levy to works

The letter from Peter Butters (April 13) correctly identifies that the major obstacle to retaining the heritage value of the deteriorating Ballarat grave memorials is the significant financial cost.

One source of funds for the work would be to redirect the Labor government initiated "levy" on gross turnover of the Ballarat Cemetery Trust, a death duty by another name, to a program of ongoing remedial works. Imagine what tens of thousands of dollars each year would achieve.
