Congratulations must go to the parliament of New Zealand for its enlightened legislation which will legalise, legitimise and recognise same-sex marriage. Clearly Kiwi politicians understand that love does not discriminate and neither should the law.

Congratulations, too, must go to NSW Premier, Barry O'Farrell for his recent advice to his federal counterparts: "We should, as governments, be encouraging commitment.
"As societies we should be encouraging commitment, because ultimately, people caring for each other work side by side with governments to create better communities."
Equality before the law is not, and should never be relative nor derivative.
Equality before the law must be absolute, and this is the fundamental argument for same-sex marriage equality, just as it is the founding principle of equality before the law regardless of gender, race, colour or creed. New Zealand's leadership, Mr O'Farrell and a majority of Australians understand this.
We need to be seriously questioning why it is that our current and potential federal leaders do not.
