Bendigo Bank WestVic defeated winless bottom team St Bedes 4-1 and is just percentage outside the top four.
Hard-running midfielders Nic Don and Ewan Wallin worked with half-backs Jamie Lovett and Nathan Hargreaves to ensure play was kept predominantly in WestVic’s front half from the outset.
Nathan Hargreaves provided the best scoring chance of the first half with a long ball out of defence, pinpointing teenage striker Max Ferrier, who streamed into the circle, only to miss after a one-on-one.
Zach Shipham was thrown up forward, Micheal Churcher moved to the half line and Thomas Watts was given a midfield role in the second half.
However, it was St Bedes that was first to take the lead from a penalty corner.
Ferrier then stood up to earn a penalty stroke and level the score.
WestVic went on to put four goals past St Bedes in 25 minutes.
WestVic shared the points with Melbourne University in a 1-all draw in the
women’s state league one.
WestVic found the goal after 10 minutes when Hannah Maloney pounced on the ball in the circle.
Melbourne Uni equalised via a penalty stroke 27 minutes into the second half.
