More than 600 Ballarat Health Services employees strapped on 'accelerometers' last Thursday to count their daily number of steps for the Global Corporate Challenge.
BHS Global Corporate Challenge staff ambassador Jan Stewart recently competed in the Port Macquarie Ironman and believes the challenge is a great initiative to encourage people to look after themselves.
"Participants in the Global Corporate Challenge are encouraged to walk at least 10,000 steps a day to promote a healthy lifestyle," Ms Stewart said.
"There are many benefits of being active, including reduced blood pressure, increased energy levels, improved sleep patterns and maintaining a healthy weight."
The hospital workers have divided into 90 teams and will compare step tallies over the 16-week challenge.
The challenge aims to promote an active lifestyle in and out of the workplace.
More than 900,000 people from 105 countries have registered for the challenge.
