What's on? Tuesday, July 31

I'M finding it hard to fathom the hype surrounding The Dark Knight Rises. I'm a huge fan of movies, and perhaps I've been living under a rock lately, but I haven't had any desire to go see it.

However, I know the backlash I face. As soon as I Google the movie title, phrases like "lives up to its expectations" and "reaches the $500 million mark" pop up. It makes me wonder where I have been. And before you ask, yes I have seen the first two of the trilogy.

So I've decided tonight is the night and I'm going to see The Dark Knight Rises just to see what all the fuss is about. It's cheap Tuesdays at the movies in Ballarat but, as I live in Melbourne, I would love to share with you all the place we love to go. It's called the Sun Theatre in Yarraville and it's well worth the drive from Ballarat.

The reformed boutique cinema is detailed in art deco style and all six of the screens have the original style of architecture. Large leather lounges have plenty of foot room and the Sun is licensed to serve alcohol in the theatres, so you can sit back with a bottle of wine and enjoy the movie. Tickets on a Tuesday night are only $10 and The Dark Knight Rises is screening at 6.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

Next door is the gorgeous Sun Bookshop that is open late every night for you to have a squiz before or after your movie.

Feature event

Go see a movie at the boutique Sun Theatre in Yarraville for $10. It is only an hour and fifteen minute drive from Ballarat and well worth going to enjoy the luxuries of the reformed cinema.

Top movies

Don't forget it's cheapskate Tuesday at the Regent Multiplex with tickets only costing $10. So my top three picks tonight are Magic Mike, Ted and The Dark Knight Rises.

Magic Mike is screening at 4.15pm, 6.35pm and 9pm. Or, head along to Gold Class at 6.35pm or 9.20pm.

Ted is screening at 4.45pm, 7pm and 9.20pm.

The Dark Knight Rises is screening at 4.45pm, 6pm, 8pm and 9.15pm. Gold Class sessions are running at 6pm and 9pm.

TV pick

If you haven't got into this yet, there's still time - MasterChef All-Stars is on Ten at 7pm. It's so good! Otherwise, jump on the London Olympics bandwagon and tune into WIN from 7pm tonight.
