Ashmore could hardly believe it last night when she was named in her first Victorian women's state team.
It caps off a whirlwind season for Ashmore, who was selected by Melbourne at pick 39 in the inaugural AFL national women's draft.
The half-back flanker moved her game from North Ballarat Eagles to Melbourne University for the chance to play in the Victorian Women's Football League premier division.
"This is my first time (in the Big V) - it's awesome," Ashmore said.
"Footy used to always be something to keep me fit.
"I love it now."
Ashmore has represented the state numerous times in athletics.
She started playing football in high school, at Mt Clear College, then joined the Eagles in the VWFL.
Playing premier division this year has improved her game.
Ashmore was thrilled to make the initial state training squad, working with renowned coach Peta Searl, an assistant to Gary Ayres at Port Melbourne in the Victorian Football League.
A preliminary training group of 40 players has trained the past month at Spotswood, with the squad gradually whittled down.
The VWFL last night named a 25-strong squad with three emergencies.
Number one national draft pick Daisy Pearce (Melbourne) headlines the team, which features a band of top draft picks like Aasta O'Connor (Darebin) and Steph Chiochi (Diamond Creek).
The assembled team will contest the AFL women's national championships in Cairns, from June 17-22.
