Edwards and Swann row for gold in London
ANTHONY Edwards continued the good fortunes of “Team Ballarat” in rowing last night by reaching another Olympic Games final in London.
The men’s lightweight four, featuring Edwards, qualified for tomorrow night’s final.
Sam Beltz, Ben Cureton, Todd Skipworth and the now Tasmanian-based Edwards finished third in the second of two semi-finals.
In his fifth Olympic Games, Edwards, 39, already has two silver medals and one bronze.
Can he add another – hopefully gold?
This gives Ballarat two interests in rowing finals.
FORMER Ballarat Grammar School oarsman Tom Swann is a member of the men’s eight, which chases gold at Eton Dorney tonight (7.30pm AEST).

JAMES Marburg then combines with Brodie Buckland in the men’s pairs semi-finals in the hope of advancing to the final.
Marburg, who like Edwards is a former St Patrick’s College student, is aiming to add to his 2008 Beijing silver medal.
They line up in the second semi-final (8pm AEST), having finished second to Canada in a heat.

BASKETBALL
Rachel Jarry will again take to the court with the Australian Opals against Brazil in a group game tonight at 11.30pm.
The Opals have one win in two outings.
They defeated Great Britain 74-58 in their opening assignment, but lost to France 74-58 in overtime in a major upset.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
TAMSIN Hinchley and Natalie Cook must defeat the Czech Republic pairing of Marketa Slukova and Kristyna Kolocova tomorrow morning (7am AEST) if they are to have any chance of advancing in the medal hunt.
Hinchley and Cook, the night owls of the tournament, can still progress, but will need things to fall their way – beginning with a decisive win in this match-up.
They have been in some of the best form they have shown this year, but have still come up empty-handed in their two games.
Hinchley and Cook lost to reigning Olympic champions May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings (US) 21-18, 21-19 in 40 minutes and then to went down to the Schwaiger sisters (Austria) 18-21, 22-20, 15-10 after holding match points in 54 minutes.
