The aim of the charter is to create a safer community.
Ballarat City councillor and White Ribbon Day ambassador Des Hudson said the charter demonstrated the council’s commitment to addressing the issue of violence against women and had become a way of encouraging conversation within the community about the issue.
“White Ribbon Day is a significant opportunity to encourage community endorsement of the charter on the council’s website or by signing the poster,” Cr Hudson said.
Posters are often at Ballarat community events for endorsement. Currently, there are about 300 signatures.
In conjunction with the White Ribbon Foundation of Australia and local welfare and community organisations, The Courier has launched the It’s Up To Us campaign and is asking readers to tell their stories and sign an online oath, pledging to put a stop to domestic violence.
