As the entire world awaited the birth of the future King of England, two proud couples were celebrating the arrival of their own newborn sons in Ballarat hospitals yesterday.
Although thousands of people gathered outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate, Boolite couple Laurinda and Jason Thomson were ecstatic about the birth of their third child Judd Harry, born at 7.27am at the Ballarat Base Hospital.
“Today was his actual due date,” Mrs Thomson said.
Older siblings Nina, 13, and Lewis, 5, had predicted Judd to be a boy and were excited about the birth of the future king. Laurinda said that upon finding out that the Duchess was in labour she “hoped to beat her”.
Judd was a name that Mr and Mrs Thomson had always liked. It was the name of Mr Thomson’s great-grandfather.
Next door at St John of God Hospital, Bryan Cameron and Vanessa Fraser welcomed William Murray into the world only minutes before the royal birth at 1.19am Eastern Standard Time.
Despite the initial thought, William’s name had nothing to do with the royal family and instead came from the names of his grandfathers.
William is now the younger brother to two-and-a-half year old Robert, also known as Bob.
The proud parents said that “they hadn’t even realised that (the Duchess) was in labour” but Mrs Fraser was hoping that her little baby would hold on “a little bit longer”.
William weighed in at 2060 grams and 44 centimetres in length and although at a premature age was in a healthy condition and will be allowed home with Mum and Dad in about six weeks.
