JARED Tallent has already turned his attention to the 50km walk in London after finishing seventh in the 20km this morning.

Tallent was among the leaders until losing touch with about 6km to go.

He completed the course in one hour, 20 minutes, two seconds – hist fastest time of the year.

China’s Ding Chen took gold in an Olympic record time of 1:18.26.

Erick Barrondo, of Guatemala (1:18:57), took silver medal, and Wang Zhen, of China(1:19:25), bronze.

The AIS-based Tallent from Ballarat said he was comfortable until the pace stepped up.

He said his main focus in the lead up the Olympics had been the 50km.

"I think it holds me in good stead for next week — I've been working a lot harder for the 50km," Tallent said.

"It's good to have a hitout today.

“I think I'll be a lot stronger next week and hopefully be in the medals there."
