The Internet Society of Australia has asked Communications Minister Anthony Albanese and his opposition counterpart Malcolm Turnbull to spell out their policies on the NBN.

Internet Society of Australia vice president George Fong said he had been told by the City of Ballarat that M.A.D.E would be available for the debate.

So far, both parties have expressed interest in the idea but are yet to confirm whether they are able to attend.

The NBN shapes as a key battleground at this year’s federal election, with both parties going to the polls with policy differences.

Labor has pledged to continue rolling out the more expensive fibre to the premises option, while the opposition has already said it will only build fibre to each street.

“I think that those differences of approach need to be fully aired so the public can be informerd and make a reasonable decision,” Mr Fong said.

Ballarat is one of the early rollout centres for the NBN, with services expected to be available this year.
