SPEEDY Essendon defender Lauchlan Dalgleish will make his AFL debut at Etihad Stadium tomorrow.
Dalgleish, from Ararat, will become the Bombers’ third debutant this season and is one of five inclusions for the club to face North Melbourne.
The 20-year-old, elevated from the Bombers’ rookie list yesterday, has developed into an exciting running half-back with the Bombers in the Victorian Football League.
He has already been touted as a player to provide the Bombers with pace and poise out of the backlines.
Bombers’ coach James Hird looked forward to what Dalgleish might serve up.
“It will be his first game of VFL football after being upgraded off the rookie list today (sic) and we look forward to seeing Lachie in action,” Hird said on the club’s website last night.
“He is a dashing half back who we are hoping will take the game on.”
Dalgleish was rookied to Essendon from North Ballarat Rebels in 2011 at pick 11.
Earlier that year, Dalgleish stamped his mark as a sprinter by running third in a Stawell Gift heat.
He captured the Terang Gift 120-metre sash on the Victorian Athletic League circuit three days after being overlooked in the AFL national draft.
Dalgleish was invited to train with the Bombers soon after.
The Bombers line-up will also be bolstered by the return of Stewart Crameri, Joe Daniher, Leroy Jetta and former Rebels and St Patrick’s College captain Nick O’Brien to the team.
The Bombers are coming off three big losses and will be fighting to stay in the top eight, while opponent North Melbourne is fighting to keep alive its slim chance to break in.
