CLUNES has ended its season on a high with a regulation dismissal of bottom placed Illabarook in round 17 of the Central Highlands Football League.
The Magpies had a torrid day in front of goal, kicking 6.25 (61) to 2.4 (16) in slippery conditions at the Clunes Football Ground on Saturday.
Magpie Jason Hill put in a best-on-ground performance, and was the only multiple goalkicker for the match, finishing with two.
Luke Caldwell, Brendan Chugg, Michael Milne and Darren Morrish were the other goal scorers for the Pies while Angus Peart and Richard Parkinson each kicked singles for the Bulldogs.
Clunes coach Justin Johns was pleased with the win in difficult conditions, but is more excited for what next year holds.
"We've now finished with three wins on the trot, which gives our guys a lot of positives into next year," Johns said.
"It's a much better way to finish the season off than playing a team like a Buninyong and getting pumped by 10 goals.
"We'll be looking to try and bring a lot of young, athletic types that aren't getting chances elsewhere to fill some of our deficiencies."Clunes has finished the season in 12th place with seven wins and 10 losses, while Illabarook finished last without winning a game.
