A YOUNG Ballarat man who glassed another man in the face, causing serious injuries that required plastic surgery, approached police to tell them he was responsible, a court heard yesterday.
Timothy Griffith, 23, appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to one charge of recklessly causing serious injury.
The court heard that Griffith was dancing at JD’s Sports Bar in Lydiard Street North about 11.45pm on June 1 this year, when he struck the male victim in the side of the face with his pot glass.
Reading a summary to the court, police prosecutor Senior Constable Steve Kent said that when police attended the bar after the incident, Griffith approached them to confess what he had done.
Senior Constable Kent also told the court of evidence given by a witness, who described Griffith and the victim “jostling” on the dance floor before the attack.
The witness told police he saw Griffith take his pot glass, raise it in his right hand, and hit the victim to the right side of his face.
The court heard that the attack left the victim requiring plastic surgery.
Magistrate Michelle Hodgson stood the matter down in order for the police to obtain a victim impact statement.
Griffith was bailed to re-appear on September 3 when he will be sentenced.
