Police will continue their investigation into the cause of a house fire in Smythesdale on Thursday night.
The blaze ripped through the Anderson Street house just after 8.30pm.
Country Fire Authority District 15 operations officer Matt Gardiner said four units were required to battle the blaze.
He said the house was unoccupied and had suffered significant damage.
“The house had to be stabilized using excavation equipment to make it safe,” he said. “We had to knock down walls and chimneys.”
Members from the Moorabool Criminal Investigation Unit are currently working with CFA investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
Detective Senior Constable Leigh Discher said police were still treating the fire as suspicious because the house was unoccupied and no cause had yet been determined.
