THE Wendouree branch of the Country Women’s Association has been spreading cheer and helping others for 60 years.
The organisation recently celebrated its birthday with music, food and an award for one of its long-term members.
Wendouree CWA president Faye Luke said the organisation was still relevant today.
“We had the state president, Dorothy Coombe, and the past state president, Carole Clay, for the celebrations,” Mrs Luke said.
“They presented our member, Mary Bayley, with a certificate in recognition of her 30 years of dedicated service to CWA.”
The occasion was also marked with an afternoon tea.
“It was a very proud moment for everyone,” Mrs Luke said.
“We had entertainment with one of the member’s grandson, Mathew Crick, playing the violin.
“Our group choir sang a lovely choice of songs.”
Mrs Luke said the branch members raised money for the community as well as visited hospice and nursing homes.
“CWA is also about friendships and crucial support to country women,” she said.
