A CARDIGAN house was destroyed by fire early yesterday.
The Whites Road property caught on fire just after 4am, and was already alight when CFA units arrived.
A Victoria Police forensics unit searched the house yesterday afternoon for the cause of the blaze, along with CFA investigators.
It is believed the fire started in the rear part of the kitchen.
CFA operations officer Malcolm Bruce said the roof of the single storey, brick veneer property had partially caved in and the rest was badly damaged by fire.
No one was home at the time of the blaze but Mr Bruce said the owner returned yesterday morning to find his house destroyed.
Units from Ballarat City, Wendouree, Cardigan and Burrumbeet attended the fire.
