BALLARAT lawyer Dianne Hadden has been named Regional Lawyer of the Year by the Law Insitute of Victoria.
Ms Hadden, who has been practicing for 28 years, said she wasn’t expecting the award on the night.
“I knew I’d been nominated by some lawyers many months ago, but I had no idea that I was in the final three until Friday,” she said.
Ms Hadden said she accepted the award on behalf of her colleagues.
“I take it as being in recognition of Ballarat laywers in general,” she said.
“While I am very proud to receive the award, I belong to a long tradition of private lawyers in Ballarat and district who serve their communities.”
As well as representing her clients, Ms Hadden last year assisted victims in making submissions to the Victorian parliamentary inquiry into clergy sex abuse.
“The victims of clergy abuse have been around in Ballarat a long time and certainly I was well aware of it when I came here in 1986,” Ms Hadden said.
Ms Hadden said complying with protocols and directions across different courts was mak-
ing practicing more complex for lawyers nowadays.
“It isn’t easy anymore being a lawyer,” she said.
