HE MAY have found the sport late in his youth, but motor road racer Jack Gallagher is making up for lost time on the bike with a stunning maiden season that has earnt him this week’s Sportz Biz Junior Sports Star of the Week award.
Gallagher, 16, decided to make the switch into the high-speed sport with his father Chris at the start of the year and has never looked back, placing third at this year’s Australian Motorcycle Road Racing championships.
“Road racing is not a sport that too many juniors get into, but there are so many top-level racers available to hand out advice and that has allowed Jack to progress extremely quickly,” Chris Gallagher said.
A number of high-performance coaching sessions have spurred Gallagher to a third placing at his first official race in Broadford earlier in the year, and a second placing at McNamara Park in August.
Last week, Gallagher raced at one of Australia’s premier race tracks in Phillip Island as part of the Pirelli Road Race Series, and is already looking forward to bigger and better performances in his second season.
Jack Gallagher is this week’s The Courier Sportz Biz Junior Sports Star of the Week.
He receives a $50 voucher courtesy of Sportz Biz, Ballarat.
