JUSTIN Laird has reigned supreme as the standout junior player in the Maryborough Castlemaine Football League, taking out the under-17.5 best and fairest on Monday night.
Laird, who played for Dunolly in its first year back in the under-17.5 competition this year, polled 26 votes to finish two votes clear of his nearest rival and teammate Matthew Gibbs.
Having previously played at North Bendigo in the Heathcote football league, Laird moved to Dunolly when it re-entered the MCDFL.
He also won the goal-kicking award with 57 goals for the season.
His win secured a prized double for the Eagles, with clubmate Sophie McQuieen sharing the honours in the 17-and-under netball with Natte Bealiba’s Caitlin Lanfranchi.
McQuieen and Lanfranchi finished tied on 27 votes.
