SPRINGBANK 50 defeated HEPBURN 48
A PERFECT season is just one game away for Springbank after scraping through to the Central Highlands Netball League grand final against Hepburn on Saturday.
In a typically tense preliminary final, the Tigers just held on to a lead they established in the early stages of the match to record a 50-48 win over the Burras.
They now go into next week's grand final against Dunnstown .
"I think the girls have put a bit of pressure on themselves, having not lost a game all year," coach Cynna Kydd said.
"But that can be a good thing. The girls have thrived under pressure all year and responded really well, so hopefully they can do that in the big one."
After leading by 10 goals at half-time, Springbank let Hepburn back into the contest in the third quarter.
The 10-goal buffer almost disappeared in the third term, as the hungrier Hepburn fought its way back into the game.
However, the Tigers responded and never gave up the lead, before the Burras again came strong in the last term.
But as good sides do, Springback showed composure and held on to secure the two-goal win.
"It was definitely a good reminder that the girls need to be right on their game, otherwise they can get rolled," Kydd said.
The Tigers will go in as hot favourites next week , a position that does not faze Kydd.
"Anything can happen in grand finals. They are not like any other games.
"We will have to do everything right. At the start of the season, we thought Dunnstown was a bit of a dark horse and they're a top team."
The result also means Springbank will have five grand final teams playing next week A, B and C grade, as well as 17-and-under and 15-and-under.
In the other CHNL prelimiary final, played yesterday, Dunnstown secured a six-goal victory against Waubra in somewhat of an upset.
The grand final will be held at Eureka Stadium at 2.30pm.
