ALL Tyson Delaney wants to do is run.
The Phoenix P-12 Community College student has no particular aims in the sport.
He just want to get out there and do his best.
And this has never been more so since he became a national cross country champion.
The 16-year-old surprised even himself when he returned from the School Sports Australia Cross Country Championships in Tasmania with a gold medal.
It would have been hard to find any other competitor more proud than Delaney.
He opened the two-day championships with an eighth in the men's 16-19 year AWD 3-kilometre event.
He was the only Victorian in the field.
Better was to come.
Delaney then backed up the next day with a victory in a 1km time-trial on the Symmons Plains Motor Raceway.
Also a keen footballer with North Ballarat, Delaney was hoping to cap off a big winter with another Ballarat Football League under-16.5 reserves premiership on Sunday.
He was going for a third in a row after playing in two others in this age group.
Unfortunately, Redan had the better of the young Roosters.
Delaney is more than happy with the gold medal though.
